Check out Part 1
and Part 3!
CSGO Surf is ubiquitous, one of the most replicated and recognizable mechanics in gaming. In total there are over 30 surf-like games, some that succeed in capturing the feeling of surf, and others that fail tragically. And, there were some games that blew my mind for their ingenuity.

Bro seeing death Elmo’s name rn was nostalgic cause I used to be part of his combat surf community years ago
One of my friends told me the best place to surf is close to the beach ..pfff what a loser
Nice video bro, I'm surprised you missed the day of defeat death slide servers they were really OG and the DOD version of surf.
I loved old bhop pro, it's was so incredibly fun, but then they turned the maps into more of platformers so they completely changed the control scheme for the worse.
i thought u could strafe in p2 with w+d
i'm looking forward to Momentum Mod coming out on steam in the near future
Kreedz Climbing is another game
respawn timer is avoidable in halo. Literally have to change one setting in the mode settings
bruh surfers make normie content 💀
Did you make this video with ai? Especially the start I got a weird feeling about this
Now play every Bhop game
Pretty good one
I comment to help statistics
whats the game at 20:48 ? looks weird
Can’t wait for momentum mod
there are indeed more vrc surf maps
One game you forgot or didn't care to mention is Call of Duty 4. Had a pretty big community back in the day
lovely video
You are missing KZMod surf. It was a standalone KZ game but it also had surf and its own unique maps. Not sure if its still available on Steam. Great video though! Was really surprised to see some surf ramps in Quake in 2002. I know Mariowned would be sad to know he could no longer put inventor of surfing on his CV haha.
I played the vrchat surf in vr and it is definitely scuffed but it's super cool being able to actually experience the surfing firsthand.
me who surfs in roblox:
"The origin of surf is"
And completely just gets the answer wrong….
Quake my guy. Quake…
Playing ze mod on csgo with surf makes me hype as hell
Cod4 – promod??
Leafy and austinFFA (or luna) got me into surf
you should check out tower unite surf
Is this an AI voice?
There's a lot of really odd comments in the first 6 minutes:
Tickrate for CSS and CSGO shouldn't really matter since server hosts can change the tickrate themselves, with CSGO servers being able to run 128 tick and CSS servers being able to run 100 tick. This kinda invalidates the point about tickrate being better on CSS since CSGO can go higher. The player proportions also don't really matter since mappers can just… make everything slightly bigger? Number of maps is a valid point though, as well as maps being made for CSS rather than CSGO (since I imagine a lot of CSGO maps were ported from CSS to begin with)
Saying "surf is thought to have originated in CS1.6" is a bit weird given we know the guy that made the first surf maps and we know that he made them for 1.6. Unless this was just meant to tease the bit about Quake having surf-like maps before 1.6? Just feels kinda weird
Similarly "the ramps are real and the units are accurate" sounds really strange. I have no idea what this is supposed to mean
Was a bit surprised about the approach to Portal. The comment that the Portal games lock your movement isn't entirely accurate, this only happens on the Portal 2 engine. I was kinda expecting Portal 1 to come up because Portal 1 doesn't do that, but I don't know if surf maps exist for it (would be cool if they did though, imagine the portal gun shenanigans you could do)
From looking at tickrates again, I wonder if part of the reason L4D2 feels so bad is because of the tickrate. The default is 30 apparently, which would explain why it feels so jank
Again, was a little surprised HL2 wasn't mentioned since you did mention HL1. Not sure if surf maps exist for it either, but it feels like a weird exclusion
Describing QuakeWorld as a mod package feels… weird? It was an official version of Quake with multiplayer functionality. From the image you show when talking about this I feel like you're describing nQuake rather than QuakeWorld which IS a package that installs QuakeWorld alongside extra stuff to modernise the experience and streamline the whole process
The rest of this video is really good, it's just that these things at the start made me a little confused
Damn, I was just casually playing surf on CS 1.6 back in the days, never thought this would evolve in such a big community.
I'll most certainly be back on CS 2!
0:19 what? core? XD, surf was first discovered by mariowned back in the 1.6 era
Surf was popularized by LEAFY?!
“Programming language of godot”
It’s an engine.
Honestly, the Titanfall surf is wild to me. Why would you port surf into Titanfall when it has its own versatile movement system waiting to be explored and maximized? It's cool as a proof of concept, but it shunting its own quirks to rehash an existing style is annoying to me.
What about surfing in karlson?
COD surf?
Valorant surf?
Tony hawk surf lol
Surf stand alone in FR?
All cs games?
FPS games?
If you didnt know, surf maps in titanfall 2 is very limited but i found a video right here:https://youtu.be/bpTmovYdnWA
roblox <3
66 tick vs 64 tick is the same difference as saying you are healthier because your burger is 620 calories instead of 640 calories
bro the bit rate at the quake part tho
I wish there was more freestyle type maps in modern cs. I used to only surf in surf_ski back in the day on 1.6. A lot of other people did the same finding their own flow and style for the map. We looked at it kind of like a skate park rather than levels or clearing gaps or breaking time trials. It was all about style.
WHAT IS THAT SURF MAP AT 1:45 THAT LOOKS SICK
Great video! You missed one of the more significant reasons people prefer CS:S over CS:GO, which is the ability to set the specific speed on your turnbind.
keeping momentum in Ballistic Zen made me think it should absolutely be like Titanfall 2 without the fps mechanics
The Surf from every Valve game comes from Quake, which provided the alot of the code for Half-Life. CS 1.6 was a modification of Half Life, soon its own game. However, a lot of these surf clones do not use the same movement code from Quake, like Roblox Surf, if you make a basic surf map in Roblox without modifying the movement code at all, you wont be able to surf and you'll just be walking on the ramps, not sliding.
